ABOUT HELEN

Helen Anne Williamson is an artist, photographer, and all-round visual creative. Her favoured mediums are acrylics on canvas, watercolour, pen and graphite. Her work can be described as a kind of visual poetry: using motifs from nature, meditative imagery and a natural colour palette.

Currently residing in Wellington, New Zealand, Helen shows her work locally and participates in Wellington's creative arts scene.

Non-exclusive to the fine art world, Helen's work is also available printed on high quality products like stationary, pillows, carry bags, apparel and more.

Born in Auckland, New Zealand; Helen was drawn to making art at a young age. An observer by nature, she communicated her interpretations visually more often than verbally. Picking up a camera in her teens, Helen found a new and more immediate way to capture things that caught her attention.  Developing pictures in the darkroom became a new-found passion and she went on to study photography at UNITEC Design School in her early 20s. With Visual Communication as her major, Helen took electives in graphic design, painting, drawing, and film production.

With a wide skill set, Helen has gone on to apply her creativity in many different areas. From photographic retouching, studio management, film production assistance, body art and face painting; to her current practice involving fine art, illustration and professional photography.

Helen's work has been shown in multiple galleries in Auckland and Wellington, as well as at Duke Gallery in New York. She currently lives with her  husband and two children in Island Bay, Wellington.
